Wearing Type!

Loving the new brief, loads of ideas, need to get sketching and making! Really want to produce something 3D, experiment with type in a 3D context. The possibilities are endless! Here is a couple of images I've pulled as a part of my research.

To Heaven clip

Ok so here is what I've ended up with. To be honest I'm not at all happy with it, time just got the better of me which is really unfortunate because I had high hopes for this project. I really wish that my origami angle concept would have worked out. But unfortunately that didn't happen, so I worked with what I had. I'm new at the whole editing thing, I have been using premiere pro and found it ok, I tried to experiment with layers and different affects, some a bit too cliche for my liking but I went with it!

Experimental Editing

Here is a clip that I experimented with using different fades and strokes don't think it necessarily works here but might try and use it somewhere else in the video.

walking 2

Here's a clip from another location, I've slowed it down but again its far too dark, there was also a clip of here driving down to the location from two different angles, and then another of her getting out of the car and walking over to the bench but all of these were just too dark, I don't know if you can change the exposure on films, like you can with pictures in photoshop?? If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Here are some stills from the clip above

Walking

Here is a clip of the girl walking then stopping, thinking, wondering, looking for something/someone. This clip is far too dark unfortunately, I did want it to be a night but his is just far too dark you can hardly even see the girl walking. I had a few other clips of just her feet, me at a different angle and then a close up of her looking out over the railings but all of them were too dark to make out anything. OS I need to reshoot these and unfortunately the girl in the video so far is unavailable. Which is not her fault, one of my problems with this brief has been planning properly. So now I'm at a bit of standstill, with only a few hrs to go until hand-in :(

Driving

Here is what I've shot for the driving sequence, at the minute it runs at 4mins long with over 200 photographs used! I really like the soft jumpyness of this clip, and how some of the pictures are blurry I think it fits in well with the first clip and the tone of the song, quite happy with these so far just need to cut it down a bit.

Stills from sleeping girl!

With the help from a friend here is the first clip that I've got, the girl asleep and then wakes up. Really like the subtle movements, and the lighting in this. Hopefully it'll work well with the rest of the tone of what I shoot and the song, which I still am unable to download?? So not sure If I'll be able to edit this to suit the song :(

New Idea??

So after struggling with the angel I've decided to try different approach, I've storyboarded out a concept where I have a girl asleep and she wakes up, she's clearly upset, gets up and decides to go for a drive and you see her go to a location you can see her looking out, wondering, looking for something/someone. I don't know if I'll mix this with what I've already done, and try and use the "angel" concept as a dream within this new idea?

Steps "To Heaven"

For this video the idea was that these boxes would come into the scene and create steps...to heaven and the angel would walk up them.

More Angel

To Heaven

Here is the first test shoot for animating the angel, quite difficult, couldn't get any help so maneuvering the angel and operating the camera was a bit of a challenge. Also finding it quite hard to move the angel, because she's made of paper there a very few movements she can make unfortunately.

Problem!! :(

Can't download the song??? I can only listen to it in the browser???

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Tale of Three Brothers Animation

Can't find a video for this yet but here are a few stills. I've put this up because I really thought this animation was brilliantly done and the movements of these characters is the kind movements I'd like my angel to make, not creepy but just very slight and delicate.

Wish I could make this!!

While looking for other types of origami people I came across this one, a violinist. I think it's brilliant and would definitely go with my concept. I downloaded the instructions but honestly It'd probably take me a a lot longer than a week to figure out, so unfortunate!

Here's a few screenshots of the instructions and a link to them if anyone else wants to give it a go!

Origami/Concept

You may or may not know but I have been creating these origami decorations to sell at a craft fair to raise money for the end of year show and I really think that the angel could really work well with the song "To Heaven". I think the song is very delicate and soft and with subtle movements from the angel it could look quite well. Next step is to try and do a rough story board and then start shooting. I also really like the lighting in these pictures so this warm soft kind of look/style is what I'd like to go for in the video.

Team Waterpolo, stop motion

This is a video from our moving image module in 2nd yr. I'm showing this to show what I've done before, I created this with three of my class mates. At the time I was very proud of the outcome but now when I look back, I cringe, I suppose it was good for a first ever attempt of stop motion but if I am going to try something similar I would like a better outcome. The only obstacle is time and when you think four people helped create this video and it's not great how am I going to create something better by myself?! Ek! Plus we had a whole semester! Sure I'll see how I get on!

Cycleman

Here's another simpler style than the one below would definitely like to work with paper and experiment with a few ideas.

paper horse stop motion animation test

Here is a short animation that's style is something I would love to try and incorperate into my video for the latest project, think I would be very difficult/time consuming but going to give it some taught!

Not sure if I've done this properly? I can't upload it so here's a screen shot of it.

Design Development and Final Outcome

So after stepping back from the last two designs I did, I liked them put wanted to push it a little further, I wanted to try and mix the old with the new. The old fashioned wallpaper was just a bit too domineering on the spread I taught and the more modern twist was too plain and simple but I still wanted to use elements from both. So went back to the drawing board and tried to bring them together concentrating on the background first in illustrator. Some were an absolute disaster but I think I got there eventually. I really like the third one here but wasn't really loving the colour pallet so messed about with that until I was happy.

Next Step was bringing in the copy, eventually I got it to fit in the space (took a while!), really happy with the outcome. It jazzes up the story a bit making it look more interesting than it actually is (no offence Tracey!) I decided to go with a very clean type for the title and quote and kept it pretty simple mixing bold and light styles. Tried a little smiley face in the quote??? Not sure about it, kind of like it on it's own but not sure about it in the spread? Also played with the quotation marks, making them little characters but I just think I'm going too far now so gonna stop! So the last one here is my final piece..hope you like!

Layouts/progress

Here is some of my layouts in progress, I've gone for two very different types of spreads. In the first one I've gone for a very retro/old fashioned look using the wallpaper from an old photo and retro type for the tag line. I've also used rounded corners on the background like in the old photos. I've played about with a quote and introduced a vector image of vegetables in the bottom one really don't like it so it'll not be staying!

In this spread I've used a photo, created a vector from it and sketched from it and then put the sketch lines over it, I then highlighted the food to make it stand out. I quite like this image now and think it works quite well with the copy. I've gone for a loose script for the title, think I'll play around with it a bit more thought. I also put a very faint vector of a clock in the background playing on the 'dinner TIME ..." idea but I don't think it works, it's too cluttered and I quite like the empty space in the last one.

So far so good I feel, I prefer the bottom one so far, not sure if the wallpaper in the top one is just too much and I prefer the more modern look of the bottom one. So just going to work on another one I think and then pick my final one and upload it.

Rough Illustrations and Layouts

Here are a few illustrations and layouts I've been messing about with, I think I want to stick with these illustrations and play with them in the layouts, I want to keep the colours pretty muted nothing too strong. I love the wallpaper from the third photo so would like to incorporate it in some way if it works well with the copy and illustrations. I also want to play with the copy like I have in the last image here but it depends on wether it works with the illustrations could be too much altogether.
